Horseback rider, Madison Shambaugh, decided to go a week without any ropes on her horse. Her method is called the “Liberty Start,” which Madison shared about on facebook. Madison believes that training a horse without restraints is a good way to allow the horse to accept humans as they are, and vice versa. This Mustang was not easy to train, but accepted Madison on her own free will.
- The “Liberty Start” method is a way of training horses free of halters or reins.
- Refraining from physical restraints allows horses to accept human on more trusting terms.
- Believe in the horses and they will surprise you.
“My conclusions are this: Refraining from physical restraints and rather, allowing the horse to accept humans in a way that honors their bodies and free will is incredibly effective at making this transition.”
